BARNARD CASTLE

Barnard Castle or Barney, as it’s known, is a little town with a lot to see and do. The superb Bowes Museum, the medieval Barnard Castle ruins, the river walks, the truly iconic Butter Market, the cobbled marketplace where you’ll find independent shops, the antique shops down The Bank, a farmer’s market on the first Saturday of the month and good places to eat and drink

Barney is very pleased to host the Funny Way To Be Comedy Club based at The Witham Community Arts Centre in the centre of the town – there may be a show or event you could book

Newgate House bed and breakfast is walking distance from all the attractions of Barnard Castle and ideally placed for visitors to the town

TEESDALE

Barnard Castle is the gateway to glorious Teesdale, parts of which are in the North Pennines National Landscape, famous for its birdlife, its arctic alpine flowers and its sense of wildness and remoteness

Bowlees Visitor Centre is a great place to start your discovery of Teesdale, with access to the impressive waterfalls High and Low Force. High Force is the highest unbroken fall of water in England.

Stargazers can take a short trip to the observatory at Grassholme Reservoir to make the most of the Dark Skies above Teesdale

Some of the most impressive sections of the Pennine Way National Trail are found in Teesdale but you don’t have to be a hard-core walker to enjoy yourself, there are numerous excellent circular walks giving you access to meadows, fells, reservoirs, and villages where you can find a cosy pub with a promising menu

Another of Teesdale’s gems is Eggleston Hall Gardens.

Come, stay with us at Newgate House and get to know Teesdale

One of the best BnBs I’ve stayed in!

One of the best BnBs I’ve stayed in! Carole was an excellent host and went above and beyond in accommodating us. We arrived in the early hours of the morning due to train delays, and Carole had waited up for us and left hot water bottles in our room. The breakfast was excellent, the room was cosy, couldn’t have asked for a better stay! We stayed here for a wedding at Runa Farm.

Great breakfast freshly cooked.

Welcoming hosts. All as promised. Great breakfast freshly cooked. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Raby Castle market and deer park worth a visit but castle closed at present.
